What Is Investment Casting?
Investment casting — also known as lost-wax casting or precision casting — is a manufacturing process that produces near-net-shape metal components with exceptional dimensional accuracy and surface finish. A wax pattern is coated with multiple layers of ceramic shell slurry, the wax is melted out, and molten steel is poured into the resulting cavity. This process delivers:
- CT4–CT6 dimensional tolerance — minimal machining required
- Ra 3.2–6.3 μm surface finish — ready for assembly or light finishing
- Complex geometries — internal passages, thin walls, undercuts all achievable in one piece

Investment casting
This process involves: fabricating a meltable wax model using a CNC machine or 3D printing → coating the wax model with multiple layers of silicon sol and zircon sand to form a ceramic shell → steam dewaxing to form a cavity → casting molten alloys (such as stainless steel, titanium alloy or superalloys) → breaking the shell to remove the finished part.
